Lady Eagles cruise to wins
The Hillcrest Lady Screamin' Eagles hosted Quitman in girls basketball action on Friday at Strawberry. The Lady Eagles entertained the home crowd with a pair of lopsided wins over the Lady Bulldogs.
In senior girl's action, Hillcrest led 20-11 after the first quarter. The Lady Eagles' continued to roll in the second period and took a 29-15 lead into the dressing room at halftime.
Hillcrest's defense held the Lady Bears to one point in the third quarter, as their lead grew to 53-16. With the mercy rule in effect, the Lady Eagles cruised to a 58-25 win.
Jessica Broadway led Hillcrest with 20 points. Breanna Doyle contributed 10 points, and Amber Glenn tossed in five. Kalie Durham and Lauren Pickle had four points each. Whitney Jones, Terra Polston, Natalie Johnson and Shelby Huskey added three points each. Allie Harris closed with two points, and Tamara Evans added a free throw.
In the junior girls game, Hillcrest raced out to a 20-4 lead. The junior Lady Eagles continued to dominate the action in the second quarter, holding a 26-8 halftime lead.
Quitman was unable to handle Hillcrest's defense, as the Lady Eagles led 34-11 entering the final period, en route to a 37-15 win.
Samantha Blevins led Hillcrest in scoring, with 19 points. Kelsea Sneed had eight points, and Chelsey Howard had a three-pointer. Mackenzie Nunnally and Chelsea Sneed had two points each.
Hillcrest made their way to Williford Thursday night to tangle with the Twin Rivers Lady Panthers.
The Lady Screamin' Eagles warmed up the court, taking a 21-13 lead, closing the first quarter. Hillcrest continued to own the hardwood in the second quarter, leading 34-29 at halftime.
Despite Twin Rivers attempts, they still trailed 50-35 with the final quarter approaching. Hillcrest took the win 60-46.
Broadway notched 23 points, 10 boards and two steals to lead Hillcrest. Doyle added nine points, five rebounds, three assists and two steals. Pickle had seven points and 12 rebounds. Johnson had seven points, six rebounds, two assists and a steal. Jones closed with six points, five rebounds, an assist, and two steals. Glenn recorded five points and six rebounds, and Kalie Durham closed with a free throw, a rebound and two steals.
The Lady Eagles traveled to Judsonia on Oct. 30 and came away with a 61-36 win over the Lady Bears of White County Central.
The Lady Screamin' Eagles raced to the lead by a score of 18-10 over the Lady Bears. Hillcrest continued to dominate the court, leading 35-18 at the halftime break.
The Lady Eagles continued their dominance in the second half to put the game away.
Broadway led Hillcrest with 13 points, and Polston had 11. Glenn and Doyle followed with 10 points each. Johnson recorded seven points, and Evans added six. Jones notched three points, while Pickle and Huskey each added a free throw.
In junior girls action, Hillcrest took an early 10-3 lead over the junior Bears. Hillcrest stepped up their game and led WCC 20-10 at the halftime break.
WCC was unable to control the Lady Eagles, as Hillcrest increased their lead to 31-16 heading into the final quarter. The junior Lady Eagles went on to record the 39-19 road win over the junior Lady Bears.
Kelsea Sneed led Hillcrest with 11 points, and Chelsea Sneed followed with 10. Blevins contributed six points, and Sarah Saffell tossed in four. Nunnally and Howard both had two points each.
