Foothills Celebration well attended
Nearly 3,000 people piled into the small town of Black Rock for the 2007 Foothills Celebration over the weekend. The celebration was kicked off with a ham and bean supper Friday evening as vendors set up booths and those in the tractor pull made last minute adjustments.
The first annual lawnmower race was a success according to event planners with racers from all over Arkansas participating. The Lions Club pancake breakfast started things off on Saturday morning at 5 a.m.
Presentation of Mr. and Mrs. Foothills of 2006 began at 9 a.m. with the presentation of the flag by the Black Rock Boy Scouts. The 2007-08 Mr. and Mrs. Foothills, Sue Sullens and the late James Sullens, were recognized.
Austin Phillips, a Black Rock native was also recognized during opening ceremonies for his service in the 875th Batallion. Phillips, who is the son of Danny and Lesia Phillips of Black Rock, was injured in Iraq in January.
At noon the tractor pull began with several out-of-state participants. The Cute Kiddie Contest and other activities such as clogging, singing and country music provided entertainment into the evening.
