Rails and Roots, a celebration of the rich heritage of Hoxie, was held last Friday and Saturday at the school and was, according to administrators, faculty and students, a huge success. Students in sixth through 12th grades spent several weeks researching and recreating, through artwork, photographs, newspaper articles and living histories, the history of Hoxie. Events included showings of recorded oral histories of Hoxie, as well as multiple showings of the documentary, "Hoxie: The First Stand," an art exhibition of drawings and paintings of historical buildings both past and present, a timeline of events from the founding of Hoxie until the present, a Military Hall of Honor paying tribute to those with Hoxie roots who have served in the armed forces, a museum of Hoxie artifacts, a display of photographs of old Hoxie and a model of the Missouri Pacific depot and roundhouse. continued...
