S-H girls fall to MarmadukeDebbie Richey
It was a battle of Lady Greyhounds as Sloan-Hendrix visited Marmaduke in junior and senior high school girls basketball action on Oct. 23.
In the senior high contest, Marmaduke took a 13-9 first-quarter lead and continued to lead by four points at halftime 24-20.
Marmaduke began to increase their lead in the third quarter, moving out to a 38-28 lead. Sloan-Hendrix' attempts failed, as they lost 53-41 to Marmaduke.
Amanda Green led Sloan-Hendrix with 14 points, 12 boards, an assist and a steal. Kristin Belcher contributed 11 points, seven rebounds and two steals. Christie Caldwell tossed in six points and had three rebounds and two steals.
Amy Green notched three points, two rebounds and a steal, and Hannah Rowsey had three points and two rebounds. Kara Morris closed with two points, and Katelyn Morris recorded an assist.
In junior girls action, Marmaduke took an 8-1 lead at the close of the first quarter and led 20-5 at halftime.
Sloan-Hendrix hammered Marmaduke in the third period to close the gap to 23-18 with the fourth quarter approaching. Despite Sloan-Hendrix' attempts and hustle, Marmaduke held on for the two point win, 33-31.
Sloan-Hendrix was led by Gennifer Simpson with 16 points, two rebounds and an assist. Kayla Griffin added four points and eight rebounds. Haley Slusser added four points, two rebounds, an assist and four steals.
Maegan Austin closed with three points, six rebounds and a steal, and Heather Bradley had two points. Emily Ogden had two points, six rebounds, two assist and two steals, and Morgan Smith closed with two assists.
