Walk of Hope raises $3,000
The walk was held in conjunction with the Iron Mountain Festival this year with nearly 100 walking in the event. Diana Shelton, a member of the Walk of Hope Committee, said the group raised approximately $3,000 Saturday with the walk and cookbook sales. This year was also the first year for the "Snooze for Hope" where individuals could register and make a contribution without actually participating. "We had a few people that chose to participate that way," Shelton said. She said the Walk of Hope Committee members were very pleased with the participation and support they received. "We're thankful that we're able to raise money for a disease that has touched so many lives," Shelton said. "The majority of the money we raise is used in Lawrence County. We're able to help our community because of the generosity and support of those who join us in this fight against cancer."
The Walk of Hope Cookbook is still available at a cost of $10. They can be purchased at Flower Basket in Walnut Ridge, Pulaski Bank in Hoxie or from any committee member. Anyone who needs more information about the group, the walk or the cookbook can call 886-7464 or 759-0421.
