Hoxie, WR compete
in district tournament

The Hoxie Lady Mustangs and Walnut Ridge Lady Bobcats competed in the 3A Northeast District Volleyball Tournament at Brookland on Saturday.

After being defeated in the semifinals, the Lady Mustangs lost a consolation match to Crowley's Ridge Academy 13-25, 25-23, 8-15.

Megan Black had 18 digs, 10 kills and five blocks. Ashley Glenn totaled six digs, three kills, nine assists and three blocks, and Kelsey Dobbs contributed 10 digs.

Courtney Jones added 15 digs, five kills and a block. Chasity Becker had nine digs, four kills and seven assists. Ashley Ramsey closed with 15 digs. Kassie Teel recorded four digs, and Erika Manis added two digs.


In the semis the Lady Mustangs fell to Brookland 9-25, 19-25, 9-25.

Black had 10 digs, five kills and a block. Glenn added five digs, a kill and three assists, and Dobbs recorded seven digs. Courtney Jones totaled eight digs, two kills and two blocks.

Becker closed with five digs, two kills, seven assists and a block. Ramsey notched eight digs and a kill. Teel had two digs, two kills and two blocks, and Manis contributed four digs.

Hoxie beats Walnut Ridge

Hoxie clinched a spot in the state tournament by defeating neighbor Walnut Ridge on Saturday 25-19, 25-17, 22-25.

Black served 9-of-9 from the line, with an ace, 15 digs, 15 kills and a block. Glenn added 11 digs, four kills, 15 assists and a block, and Dobbs recorded 11 digs.

Jones notched 12 digs, five kills and four blocks. Becker closed with 10 digs, four kills, 11 assists and a block. Ramsey totaled 15 digs and three kills, and Teel had three digs and three kills.

Hoxie advances to the Class 3A State Tournament at Harrison. The Lady Mustangs are the number four seed from the 3A Northeast conference and will open play against the top seed from the 3A North conference on Oct. 30 at 4 p.m.

Walnut Ridge saw its season end with the loss to the Lady Mustangs. The Lady Bobcats finish with a 6-3 record in the 3A Northeast conference, good for a fourth-place league finish, and a 15-13 overall record.

Walnut Ridge's final season stats are:

Rachel Looney ~ 60 digs, 220 kills and 149 blocks; Vanessa Oliver ~ 64 aces, 212 digs, 142 kills, seven assists and 51 blocks; Chelsea Treadway ~ 23 aces, 230 digs, 74 kills, 12 assists and 15 blocks; Chelsi Fultner ~ 46 aces; Amber Caldwell ~ 27 aces, 144 digs, 17 kills, 158 asssists and two blocks; Chelsey Linebaugh ~ 34 aces, 138 digs, 20 kills, 230 assists and two blocks; Samantha Knight ~ 20 aces and 125 digs; Taylor Wagoner ~ 31 aces and 153 digs.


Hoxie opened their tournament play with a win over Cave City on Thursday 25-7, 25-8, 25-17.

Black served 6-for-6, with an ace, 10 digs, 10 kills and three blocks. Glenn was 7-of-7 at the line, with eight digs, three kills and 10 assists, and Dobbs added seven digs.

Jones served 10-for-12, with two aces, 10 digs, seven kills and a block. Becker recorded 17-of-17 at the line, with five aces, eight digs, five kills, 11 assists and a block, and Ramsey was 9-of-9 serving, with eight digs and two kills.
