BR, Hillcrest compete
in senior jamboree

Hillcrest held a senior high basketball jamboree Friday night at Lynn, with Izard County Consolidated, Tuckerman, Black Rock and Hillcrest competing.

The Hillcrest and ICC girls were the first to take the court. Hillcrest took a 12-8 lead at the end of the first quarter and continued to lead 22-14 at the end of the two-quarter match.

Lady Eagle Breanna Doyle led with 10 points. Jessica Broadway added five points, and Amber Glenn tossed in four. Natalie Johnson had two points, and Tamara Evans contributed a free throw.

The ICC and Hillcrest boys were up next, with the Cougars having a 30-9 lead after the first quarter, and continuing to lead 42-34 at the close of the second quarter.

Jordan Hunter led the Eagles with 10 points, and Derek Wooten added nine. Dustin Durham closed with seven points, and Aaron Britton contributed four. Patrick Corder and Jacob Clifton tossed in two points each.

The Tuckerman and Black Rock girls were next, with the Lady Bulldogs holding a 15-14 lead after a close first quarter. Black Rock made a comeback and closed the second quarter leading 28-22.

Whitney Martin led the Zebras with 13 points. Jordan Fore added nine points, and Stephanie Bagwell notched six.

The Black Rock and Tuckerman Boys were up next, with the Bulldogs leading 19-13 at the end of the first quarter. Black Rock closed the gap and trailed by one at the end of play 30-29.

Zebra Les Foster had four three-pointers and a total of 13 points. Chris Richardson notched three three-pointers and a total of 11 points. Garrett Maronde and Ben Walker closed with two points each, and Jay Nunally added a free throw.

The Hillcrest and Black Rock girls faced off in their last game, with the Lady Eagles leading 18-8 at the close of the first quarter, and taking the second quarter 35-19.

Broadway led the Eagles with eight points, and Doyle had seven. Terra Polston finished with six points, and Glenn notched five. Whitney Jones added four points. Shelby Huskey had a three-pointer, and Lauren Pickle recorded two points.

For the Lady Zebras, Fore, Martin and Bagwell all closed with five points each. Brittany Anderson and Ashley Stallings recorded two points each.

The Black Rock and Hillcrest boys finished the night. The Eagles held a 19-10 first quarter lead and topped the Zebras 32-27 after two quarters.

Hillcrest was led by Wooten with 14 points. Hunter and Corder contributed five points each. Britton notched four points. Clifton and Ricardo Rodriquez closed with two points each.

The Zebras were led by Foster with 10 points. Richardson topped out with seven points, and Nunally added four. Walker closed with three points. Cager Ridge notched two points, and Jonathan Rice recorded a free throw.
