Hoxie drops first game to Corning
Hoxie's Alex Ward and Derek Johnson take down a Corning player during Friday night's battle of the undefeated. The Mustangs came up short, dropping the game 13-3.

The Hoxie Mustangs hosted the Corning Bobcats in a clash of unbeaten teams on Friday at Crider Field. Corning's stingy defense held the Mustangs to a field goal, as the Bobcats came away with a 13-3 win in the battle for supremacy in Conference 3A-3.
The Bobcats scored on a one-yard run late in the first quarter. The PAT kick was good, giving Corning a 7-0 lead.
Corning scored again with 6:57 left in the second quarter to take a 13-0 lead into the fieldhouse at halftime.
Hoxie got on the scoreboard with Brad Cook's 8-yard field goal with 2:50 to play in the third quarter to cut Corning's advantage to 13-3.
The teams played a scoreless final period, as the Bobcats held on for the win.
Hoxie's Houston Hancock finished 7-of-19 passing for 106 yards.
Tyler Thompson ran for 89 yards on eight carries. Brad Cook had three carries for 20 yards. Alex Ward had five carries for 14 yards and Houston
Waldrupe totaled 13 yards on 3 carries.
Thompson also led the Mustangs' defensive effort, recording 17 tackles, including seven solo tackles. Derek Johnson had sixteen tackles and Ward had nine.
Hoxie experienced its first loss of the season, falling to 6-1 overall and 3-1 in conference play.
Hoxie hosts Brinkley for Homecoming on Friday night. Homecoming royalty will be presented at 7:15 p.m.. Kickoff is at 7:30 p.m.
