The Cross County Thunderbirds invaded Sexton Field and overwhelmed Walnut Ridge's Bobcats 36-0 in senior high football action Friday night.
"They showed up to play," said Walnut Ridge head coach Larry Treadway. Missed opportunities hampered the Bobcats, especially in the first half.
"We had several opportunities to score, but we were unable to finish the drives," added Treadway. "We dropped at least two touchdown passes and had a terrible night tackling."
Walnut Ridge quarterback Tyler Meadors completed eight-of-18 passes for 175 yards, and rushed nine times for 76 yards.
Bennett Dudley led the Bobcats in receiving with six catches for 151 yards.
Defensively, Walnut Ridge was led by Brandon Dawson with 12 tackles and Josh Vidal with eight.
The Bobcats' biggest loss may not have come on the scoreboard, as injuries continued to plague the Bobcats.
"Our biggest loss for the night was an injury to Cory Sellers, our starting defensive tackle," said Treadway. "We hope we can get some of these kids back. We have lost six starters from our defense this season, and none have returned."
Walnut Ridge hosts McCrory this Friday at Sexton Field. Both teams are 1-1 in 2A-3 conference play and still in contention for a playoff berth. Kickoff is at 7:30 p.m.
