Hoxie sweeps Pocahontas

Hoxie took on Pocahontas in high school volleyball action on Sept. 26 at Hicks Gymnasium in Hoxie, as Lady Mustang coach Judy Goodwin coached against her daughter, Courtney Goodwin, who is in her first year as coach of the Lady Redskins. The evening proved to be a case of "mother knows best," with Hoxie winning both the junior and senior high contests.

Hoxie grabbed the senior high match 25-9, 25-13, 25-20.

Megan Black closed with eight digs, eight kills and five blocks. Ashley Glenn served 17-of-17, with seven aces, seven digs, two kills and 14 assists. Kelsey Dobbs added eight digs, and Courtney Jones notched five digs, two kills and two blocks. Chasity Becker had seven digs, nine kills and four assists. Ashley Ramsey contributed eight digs, two kills and was 9-of-9 from the serving line, with an ace.

Hoxie took the junior high game 16-25, 25-16, 25-16.

Amanda Whaley was 8-of-8 from the line, with three digs and 10 assists. Katelyn Cook added four digs, two kills and two assists, and Kelsey Lewis contributed 10 digs, 11 kills and three blocks. Devine Wilson closed with seven digs, a kill and a block. Amy Galbreath added six digs, three kills and a block, and Jessica Boothe served 8-of-8 with three aces and five digs.


Hoxie traveled to Bay on Sept. 24 to take on the Lady Yellowjackets.

Hoxie won the senior high match by scores of 25-16, 23-25, 25-14, 25-9.

Black served 12-of-13 from the line, with an ace, 17 digs, nine kills and five blocks. Glenn added 11 digs, four kills and 12 assists, and Dobbs closed with 13 digs. Jones went 8-of-8 from the line, with three aces, 11 digs, four kills and two blocks. Becker recorded 13 digs, four kills and 11 assists, and Ramsey hit 18-of-20 from the line, with 12 digs and two kills.

The junior Lady Mustangs took a win 25-13, 25-10.

Whaley served 17-of-18 from the line with four aces, a kill and four assists. Cook served 4-of-4 from the line, with three aces, four kills and two assists. Lewis added five kills. Galbreath was 8-of-9 from the serving line, with five aces and three digs. Brianna Liscomb recorded two kills.
