Tyler Meadors passed for three touchdowns, including one of 60 yards to Bennett Dudley midway through the fourth quarter, to lead the Walnut Ridge Bobcats to a 26-22 win over Rector. It was the first win of the season for the Bobcats, after four hard-fought losses.
The scoring started with Jared Blackwell hitting sophomore Derek Medlock on a 46-yard pass minutes into the ballgame.
Meadors passed eight yards to Medlock for a touchdown with 23 seconds left in the quarter to give Walnut Ridge a 14-0 lead.
After Rector scored early in the third quarter to pull within 14-7, Meadors connected with Dudley for an eight-yard score to give the Bobcats a 20-7 lead.
Meadors completed 10-of-18 passes for 185 yards and three touchdowns.
"Tyler played his best ballgame of the season. Bennett made some great catches and continues to get better each week," said Bobcat head coach Larry Treadway.
Dudley, a sophomore, finished with four catches for 92 yards and two touchdowns. Medlock had four catches for 96 yards and two touchdowns.
"This is Derek's first full contact week back from a hip injury, and we were happy to see him full speed again," said Treadway.
Tel Britton led the Bobcats in rushing, with 33 yards on eight carries.
"Our pass protection looked better, with John Monkus, Colton Adkisson, George Bruton and Zach Mullen, leading the way," Treadway said.
Defensively, Corey Sellers continues to be a leading tackler for the Bobcats.
"We lost a three-year starter and a great player with a broken ankle Friday night early in the third quarter. Senior Colton Simpson, one of our leading tacklers, is out for the season," added Treadway
"Colton was the leader of our defense. He brought a great work ethic to practice every day and will be hard to replace. He will be our team captain for the coin toss for the rest of the year," said Treadway.
Walnut Ridge is now 1-4 on the season and 1-0 in conference play.
