The Lady Mustangs won the Silver Bracket Championship in the Scarlet Division of the ASU Playday held over the weekend. Lady Mustangs are
silver champs at ASU
The Hoxie Lady Mustangs senior high volleyball team took part in the ASU Playday at Jonesboro on Saturday.
The Lady Mustangs split their first match in pool play with Southside 20-25, 25-20.
Ashley Glenn was 5-of-5 serving, with three digs, a kill, two assists and three blocks. Lindsey Ginn had two digs, a kill and four blocks. Kelsey Dobbs closed with three digs, and Courtney Jones added three digs, six kills and a block.
Chasity Becker served 4-of-4 from the line, with five digs and six assists. Ashley Ramsey went 4-for-4 serving, with an ace, eight digs and two kills. Malonni Cornell and Kassie Teel had a dig apiece.
Hoxie lost to Bryant 25-17, 25-20 in the second match of pool play.
Megan Black was 5-of-5 serving, with an ace, six digs, two kills and three blocks. Glenn added five digs, and Jones contributed six digs and a block. Becker served 5-for-5, with three digs, a kill, an assist and two blocks. Ramsey added an ace and four digs, and Erika Manis had three digs.
In the third game of pool play, Holcomb defeated the Lady Mustangs 25-20, 25-18.
Black had 10 digs, eight kills and five blocks. Glenn added six digs, a kill, two assists and two blocks. Ginn contributed a dig and three blocks, and Dobbs notched an ace and two digs. Jones had 10 digs, a kill and six blocks. Becker recorded 11 digs, a kill, seven assists and four blocks, and Ramsey had 10 digs. Teel closed with three blocks, and Manis had a dig and an assist.
Hoxie finished third in their pool, sending them to the Silver Tournament of the Scarlet Division.
Hoxie won its first game via forfeit, sending the Lady Mustangs to a match against the Walnut Ridge Lady Bobcats in the semifinals. Hoxie defeated Walnut Ridge in two close games, 25-21, 25-22, to advance to the finals.
Black had five digs, 10 kills and five blocks, while Glenn added two kills and six assists. Dobbs was 5-for-5 at the serving line, with two aces and three digs. Jones added two digs, six kills and two blocks, and Becker served 7-of-7 with two aces, three digs, three kills, 11 assists and three blocks. Ramsey recorded 8-of-8 serving, with four aces, six digs and four kills, and Teel closed with a kill and two blocks.
The Mustangs advanced to the championship game, where they defeated Mountain Home 25-20, 25-15.
Black closed with an ace, five digs, eight kills, four assists and 10 blocks. Dobbs added four digs, and Jones recorded five digs, five kills and five blocks. Becker closed with five digs, three kills and four blocks, and Teel had a kill, an assist and two blocks.
