WR golf team claims regional titleThe Walnut Ridge High School golf team claimed the championship of its regional tournament on Sept. 18 at Cooper's Hawk Golf Course in Melbourne. The Bobcat golfers advance to the Class 2A State Tournament, to be held Oct. 2 at the Lion's Club Golf Course in El Dorado.
Walnut Ridge cruised to the regional title, finishing with a team score of 225, 25 strokes ahead of second-place Ridgefield Christian, which also qualified for the state tournament. Izard County Consolidated and West Side Greer's Ferry tied for third place. ICC will advance to the state tournament by virtue of winning a playoff.
Individually for Walnut Ridge, John-Scott Kelley won medalist honors with a one over par score of 73.
Matt Hibbs shot a 74 and Barrett Kelley added a 78 in the play-four, count-three format.
Matt Ryan rounds out the team, which is coached by Derek Bramlett.
