The Walnut Ridge Bobcats hosted the Chaffee Red Devils in high school football on Friday night. The visitors from Missouri put a damper on the evening's homecoming festivities, handing the Bobcats another close loss 13-6.
Chaffee led 13-0 at halftime.
Tyler Meadors got Walnut Ridge on the board in the third quarter, scoring on a one-yard quarterback sneak behind Colton Simpson and John Monkus. The two-point conversion failed and the Red Devils denied the Bobcats any more scoring opportunities.
"Missed blocking assignments and penalties hurt us," said Walnut Ridge head coach Larry Treadway. Meadors recorded 9-of-20 passing for 76 yards, and had 13 rushing attempts for 50 yards and a touchdown.
"Meadors had good night throwing the ball and he punted well," added Treadway.
Also for Walnut Ridge, Mitchell Thompson had three carries for 23 yards, and caught three passes for 24 yards. Jared Blackwell recorded 13 yards on two carries, and Tel Britton had 17 yards on nine carries. Derek Medlock caught two passes for 16 yards, and Bennett Dudley caught two for 21 yards. Robert Rider caught one for six yards, and Justin Tribble caught one for nine yards.
Ryan Bounds and Colton Simpson led the Cats defensively.
