Mustangs run over Westside

The Hoxie Mustangs made their way to Jonesboro on Friday to take on the Westside Warriors in high school football action.
Westside scored first with a drive of 10 plays for 72 yards, ending with a four-yard touchdown to take a 7-0 lead.
The Mustangs answered with a touchdown by Brad Cook, capping a drive of 63 yards in 14 plays. The PAT was no good, leaving the Warriors with a 7-6 lead.
After Hoxie held Westside, the Mustangs' Houston Waldrupe scored with 8:13 left in the half. The two-point conversion was good, as Hoxie took a 14-7 lead into halftime.
Mustang quarterback Houston Hancock recorded a 52-yard keeper for a touchdown with 10:11 left in the third quarter. Cook added the PAT, increasing Hoxie's lead to 21-7.
Hoxie gained control of the ball with 6:10 left in the third quarter, and Cook recorded their fourth touchdown. The PAT was good, giving the Mustangs a lead of 28-7.
With 6:36 left in the game, Dakota Richardson grabbed a five-yard pass from Hancock for a touchdown, making the final score 34-7.
Hoxie finished with 296 yards of offense, while holding the Warriors to 99 yards.
Tyler Thompson rushed for 72 yards on nine attempts. Hancock had 69 yards on six tries and scored a touchdown. Waldrupe had 67 yards on nine tries and scored two touchdowns. Alex Ward notched 61 yards on 10 tries. Cook closed with 58 yards on 11 attempts and scored two touchdowns.
This sets the stage for Hoxie's tough conference game against last year's 3A-3 champions Harrisburg on Friday at Harrisburg.
