Ingram, Tate win elections
Election Commissioner Lee Turnbull performs a public test of a voting machine that was used in Tuesday's school election. All of the machines and the PEBs (personalized electronic ballots) were tested prior to the election to make sure they were cleared of any votes and contained the correct ballot for the polling site. Pat Whitmire and John Allen are also members of the commission.

Preparations by election commissioners Lee Turnbull, Pat Whitmire and John Allen paid off as final results were announced at 9:30 p.m.
In the race for Lawrence County School Board, Walnut Ridge position, Ron Ingram defeated Cathy Coker by a vote of 211 to 190.
Incumbent Marlyn Tate won re-election to the Hoxie School Board defeating Hoss Jones 152 to 105.
In Tuesday's election, voters had a choice between paper or electronic ballots. Problems experienced in previous elections with the new voting machines have been identified and resolved, making the ballot counting go much smoother.
There were no millage changes requested, and schools without races are not required to hold an election. Turnout at the polls in the two districts with races was light with 401 casting ballots for the Lawrence County position and 257 voting in the Hoxie election.
