S-H adds new teachers, realigns

Students at Sloan-Hendrix School are seeing several new faces this year as well as realignment.

The district, which has always consisted of an elementary and high school, has added a middle school this year. Elementary is now kindergarten through fourth grades; middle school includes grades five through seven; and high school is grades eight through 12.

The school has also seen some exterior changes including a renovation of the cafeteria and a new sidewalk.

New teachers this year include Stephanie Lewis, elementary reading specialist. She received her bachelor's of science in education with a major in early childhood education from Arkansas State University. Lewis, a native of Jonesboro, currently resides in Imboden with her husband, Preston.

Shara Phares is the new elementary counselor. She is a graduate of SHHS and a native of Ravenden. Phares received her bachelor's degree in elementary education at ASU and is currently working on her master's in school counseling. She has taught fourth grade at Twin Rivers for the past seven years. She and her husband, Shawn, live in Imboden with their three-year-old daughter Lakyn Alandra.

Chelsea Matheny, an Imboden native, is the new fifth grade literacy teacher, elementary P.E. teacher and high school softball coach. She received her bachelor's of science from ASU. She lives in Imboden with her husband, Ty.

Charlie Reynolds is the new band director at Sloan-Hendrix. He is also teaching choir and elementary music. He received his bachelor's in music education from UCA and his master's in music education from ASU. He has taught at several schools in both Arkansas and Oklahoma. He lives in Walnut Ridge with his wife, Sharon.

Kendra Woodard is the school's new Spanish facilitator. She received her nursing diploma from Cottonboll Technical Institute. She and her husband, Shannon, live in Imboden with their son, Kord.
