Lady Mustangs compete in tourney

Hoxie's Lady Mustangs traveled to Trumann on Saturday to compete in the Trumann Invitational Volleyball Tournament.

In the first match, Hoxie defeated West Memphis 25-21, 25-15.

Megan Black had 12 kills and four blocks. Ashley Glenn had three kills and 13 assists. Kelsey Dobbs served 8-for-8 from the line with three digs. Courtney Jones recorded two aces, four digs, three kills and three blocks. Chasity Becker had three kills and 11 assists. Ashley Ramsey went 10-for-10 from the line with an ace, two digs and a kill. Kassie Teel had two kills and a block.

Hoxie played Trumann next, falling 25-19, 15-25, 13-15.

Black had nine kills and three blocks. Glenn recorded six assists, and Lindsey Ginn had two blocks. Dobbs served 4-for-4 from the serving line with an ace. Jones added three digs and two kills. Becker earned five kills and nine assists, and Ashley Ramsey had four digs.

In the third match, Hoxie played Batesville and won 25-17, 25-21.

Black had two digs, two kills and a block. Glenn had two digs and five assists. Dobbs had three aces, and Jones had two kills. Becker added three kills, and Ramsey went 6-for-6 at the line with an ace.

In the finals of the gold bracket the Lady Mustangs played Trumann and lost 23-25, 18-25.

Black went 5-for-5 from the serving line with an ace, five kills and two blocks. Dobbs closed with three digs, and Jones recorded three digs, three kills and two blocks. Becker added four assists

The senior Lady Mustangs are 5-5 on the season and 1-2 in the conference.


Hoxie hosted Brookland Thursday.

The senior Lady Mustangs fell 14-25, 9-25, 25-21,17-25.

Black had six digs, nine kills and four blocks. Glenn added eight digs, two kills and 11 assists. Dobbs closed with nine digs. Jones had 11 digs, nine kills and four blocks. Becker had eight digs, three kills and 13 assists, and Teel had a kill and two blocks.

Brookland handed the junior Lady Mustangs their first loss of the season 25-16, 17-25, 10-15.

Junior Lady Mustang Amanda Whaley earned two kills and two assists. Kelsey Lewis had three digs and five kills. Devine Wilson added two digs and six kills. Alyssa Coggins closed 7-of-7 from the serving line, with three aces, two digs and five kills. Amy Galbreath recorded three digs and three kills. Jessica Boothe had three digs, and Brianna Liscomb had a kill.


Hoxie traveled to Harrisburg on Sept. 4 for volleyball action.

The senior Lady Mustangs lost an exciting contest to the Lady Hornets, 26-28, 25-17, 25-20, 23-25, 14-16.

Black closed with 16 digs, seven kills and a block. Glenn added 11 digs, four kills, 12 assists and a block. Ginn had six digs, and Dobbs had 10 digs. Jones served 16-for-16 from the line with 11 digs and four kills. Becker had 18 digs, eight kills and 11 assists, and Erika Manis had 12 digs.

The loss dropped the Lady Mustangs record to 3-2.

The junior Lady Mustangs took the win 25-15, 25-8.

Whaley had two kills, two assists and was 7-of-8 from the line with an ace. Lewis served 7-for-7 from the line with four aces, a kill and a dig. Wilson went 3-for-3 at the serving line, with two aces, a dig and a kill.

The junior Lady Mustangs were 5-0 after the win.
