DEMOLITION UNDERWAY IN PREPARATION FOR SHELTER~ C.W. Bratcher tears down an old building as demolition continues this week on the site of the future Lawrence County Children's Shelter. The land, which includes over five acres in Walnut Ridge, was donated by descendents of the Neil and Imogene Sloan and Earl and Polly Sloan families. The property, which formerly housed the Sloan cotton gin, is located on Southwest Sixth Street, between Elm and Pine streets, and bordered by the former Burlington Northern Santa Fe railroad spur designated for the Rails to Trails project. Bratcher's Custom Dozer and Excavating of Imboden has the 90-day contract for the demolition.
