Bobcats scrimmage Cave City
Debbie RicheyStaff Writer
The Walnut Ridge Bobcats took on Cave City in a senior high football scrimmage last week.
The Cavemen took an early 8-0 lead, but the Bobcats fought back to take a 16-8 lead at the close of the first quarter.
The Cavemen closed the gap to 16-14 at halftime.
Walnut Ridge continued to hold a 22-20 lead after three quarters.
Cave City took the fourth quarter 8-0, with many players seeing action.
"We looked good with our first units on offense and defense, but struggled with the second and third units. Everybody got to scrimmage and both teams were happy with the game," said Walnut Ridge head coach Larry Treadway.
Individually, Tyler Meadors took control of the offense and kept things moving. Logan Gaither and Derek Medlock had some big catches. Both tailbacks, Brandon Dawson and Tel Britton looked good.
Seniors Corey Sellers and Ryan Bounds, along with junior Archie Roderick and sophomore Bennett Dudley, all had good games defensively.
Walnut Ridge will host Piggott on Thursday night in the junior high season-opener.
The senior Bobcats open the regular season against Hoxie on Friday night at Walnut Ridge's Sexton Field
