Registration, open
houses continue

Schools throughout Lawrence County are gearing up for the first day of the 2007-2008 school year.

Each school plans to start back on Monday. The schools include Black Rock, Hillcrest, Hoxie, Imboden Area Charter School, Sloan-Hendrix and Walnut Ridge.

Registration, open house and orientation will continue at area schools.

Black Rock

Black Rock School will hold new student registration through Friday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Back-to-school night for elementary students will be Thursday from 6:30-7:30 p.m.


Hillcrest School District will hold open house at 7 p.m. on Thursday. Students in grade K-6 will meet at the elementary school, located on the Lynn campus. Students in grades seven through 12 will report to the Strawberry campus.

The annual report to the public will also be made on Thursday at 6 p.m. at the multipurpose building on the Lynn campus.

New students can register between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. through Friday.


Hoxie School will host seventh grade orientation Thursday at 6 p.m. in the cafeteria. Students will receive schedules and locker numbers during the meeting. There will be a $2 fee for lockers to be paid at this time.

New students may register in the counselor's office at the elementary or high school from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. through Friday.

School will begin Aug. 20 with students in grades 7-12 meeting at 8 a.m. in the Hicks Gymnasium, where they will receive homeroom assignments, schedules and locker numbers.


New students at Imboden Area Charter School may register any time between 7:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. through Friday.


Sloan-Hendrix High School in Imboden held registration and orientations last week and early this week. Those who were unable to attend should contact Mitch Walton at 869-2361.

Walnut Ridge

The Walnut Ridge School will hold open house on Thursday for students in kindergarten through eighth grades. The kindergarten and first grade open house will be held from 6-6:45 p.m. in their respective wings. Second, third and fourth grades will have their open house from 6:15-7 p.m. in their building.

Middle level open house, for students in fifth and sixth grades, will begin at 6:30 p.m. and conclude at 7:15 p.m.

Open house for those in grades seven and eight will begin at 7:15 p.m. in the middle school building. Seventh and eighth grade students will receive their schedules and locker assignments on the first day of school in homeroom.

New students may enroll at their respective offices between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. any time before Monday
