Big shoes to fill
Amber AdamsStaff Writer
Being the editor of a weekly newspaper is not something I dreamed of as a little girl, and now that I have done it for a few weeks, I know its not a job I want do for life.
With Gretchen out on maternity leave, we are all under a little more stress. Everyone has picked up one or two of her duties. I am literally filling her shoes while she is out, or at least filling her desk. Keeping up with the hundreds of e-mails and phone calls every week has been more stressful than I ever would have imagined. This is by far, the most stressful job I’ve ever had.
I have to say, that despite all my worries, I think we’ve done pretty well so far. We haven’t been at the office until midnight yet, which was my worst fear, and I don’t think we’ve made any irreparable mistakes. The first week Gretchen was out was hard, but we managed. I assumed it would get easier from there ... I was wrong.
Filling someone else’s shoes is always hard to do, but even more so when the change seems to be from flip-flops to stilettos.
Gretchen, I miss you, and am ready to see you back in the office
