Area schools set open
Schools throughout Lawrence County are gearing up for the first day of the 2007-2008 school year.
Each school plans to start back on Aug. 20 including Black Rock, Hillcrest, Hoxie, Imboden Area Charter School, Sloan-Hendrix and Walnut Ridge.
Registration, open house and orientation dates have also been set at area schools.
Black Rock School will hold new student registration Aug. 13-17 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Seventh grade orientation has been set for Aug. 14 from 6:30-7 p.m. with high school open house from 7-8 p.m.
Back-to-school night for elementary students will be Aug. 16 from 6:30-7:30 p.m.
Hillcrest School District will hold open house at 7 p.m. on Aug. 16. Students in grade K-6 will meet at the elementary school, located on the Lynn campus. Students in grades seven through 12 will report to the Strawberry campus.
The annual report to the public will be made on Aug. 16 at 6 p.m. at the multipurpose building on the Lynn campus.
New students can register between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m., Monday through Friday, from now through the start of school.
Hoxie School will host an open house for pre-kindergarten through 12th grade students on Tuesday from 5:30-7:30 p.m.
Seventh grade orientation will be held Aug. 16 at 6 p.m. in the cafeteria. Students will receive schedules and locker numbers during the meeting. There will be a $2 fee for lockers to be paid at this time.
New students may register in the counselor's office at the elementary or high school from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. through Aug 17. A new student orientation for grades 7-12 will be held Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. in the cafeteria. Students and parents will receive information on advanced placement classes, attendance, school rules and policies and will tour the campus.
School will begin Aug. 20 with students in grades 7-12 meeting at 8 a.m. in the Hicks Gymnasium, where they will receive homeroom assignments, schedules and locker numbers.
Imboden Area Charter School will host a "get-acquainted" picnic for students and parents on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Imboden City Park. An open house will follow at the school.
New students may register any time between 7:30 a.m. and 4 p.m., Monday through Friday, from now through the start of school.
Sloan-Hendrix High School in Imboden is holding pre-registration for grades nine-12 this week in the counselor's office. All seniors and juniors met on Tuesday morning. Sophomores will meet today at 9 a.m. and freshmen will meet at 1 p.m. Those unable to attend these registrations should contact Mitch Walton at 869-2361.
A middle school parent/student orientation, for students in grades five through seven, has been scheduled for August 14 at 6:30 p.m. in the Sloan-Hendrix athletic complex. Students will be given their class schedules for the year and will be shown the location of those classes.
The Walnut Ridge School will hold open house for kindergarten and first grades on Aug. 16 from 6-6:45 p.m. in their respective wings. Second, third and fourth grades will have their open house from 6:15-7 p.m. in their building.
Middle level open house, for students in fifth and sixth grades, will begin on Aug. 16 at 6:30 p.m. and conclude at 7:15 p.m.
Open house for those in grades seven and eight will begin at 7:15 p.m. in the middle school building. Seventh and eighth grade students will receive their schedules and locker assignments on the first day of school in homeroom.
Walnut Ridge High School will host a new student orientation for all incoming freshmen and any new student on Aug. 14 at the Sharum Gymnasium beginning at 6 p.m.
Students will be given information on the daily schedule of school operations, and important handbook issues will be discussed. A tour of the campus will be given at the end of orientation.
The high school will also be hosting an orientation for grades nine-12 on the same night beginning at 6:30.
Students will be able to pick up their schedules, locker assignments and parking assignments according to the following schedule:
Seniors, today, beginning at 9 a.m.; juniors, today, after 1 p.m.; sophomores Thursday beginning at 9 a.m.; freshmen, Thursday beginning at 1 p.m.
New students may enroll at their respective offices between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. any time before Aug. 20, which is the first day of school.
