Pilot OK after plane crash
An Air Evac helicopter lifts off from the landing strip at Wilson Flying Service Monday afternoon carrying pilot Anthony Alls of Black Rock after the plane he was flying crashed in a field following takeoff.

Anthony Alls, 29, was taking off from the flying service's airstrip when the plane went down. He apparently realized there was a problem, as he was in the process of dumping his load, 2,650 pounds of fertilizer, when he went down.
When emergency officials reached Alls, he had exited the 1978 Ag Cat on his own and was lying in the rice field where the plane went down. continued...
Hoxie fire still under investigationA fire last Tuesday night that destroyed the Furniture and Appliances Now building, located on Highway 67B in Hoxie and injured two area firefighters, is still under investigation.
Peyton is new chief of staffBill Maxwell, president of the Lawrence Health Services board of directors, opened the July meeting by welcoming Dr. Shawn Peyton, the new chief of staff for the facility. Peyton provided the medical staff report and reports on performance improvement and safety as monitored by LHS physicians.
Rose retires after 41
After 35 years with the Walnut Ridge School District and over 40 years in education, Joyce Rose is retiring. She has worn many hats during her time at the Walnut Ridge School, the most recent being that of high school counselor.
