Mark and Sarah Morse of Portia have announced the birth of their first child, a son, born June 25, 2007, at NEA Medical Center in Jonesboro. The baby weighed six pounds, four ounces, and has been named Jonah Anthony Morse.
Grandparents are Dewayne and Tammy Reese, Tommy Morse and Ann Morse. He is the great-grandson of Sidney Reese, Sue and Tommy Goza and Effie and George Bruce.
Great-great-grandparents are Violet Hoffman and Bonnie and Charlie Woody.
Tyna Lynn Cravens and Nathanael William Bennett have announced their engagement and forthcoming marriage.
The bride-elect is the daughter of Mike Barker of Bay and the late Karen Barker and the late Frankie Cravens. She is the granddaughter of Alice Marie Poteete and Ozella Redding, both of Walnut Ridge, and Curtis and Burlene Barker of Boydsville. She is a graduate of Bay High School and is a student at Arkansas State University.
The prospective groom is the son of Roy and Rhonda Bennett of Bono. He is the grandson of Aaron Dale Pugsley II of Lorado, Irene Pugsley of Bono and Bill and Hannah Bennett of Jonesboro. He is a Westside High School graduate and is a student at ASU.
The couple will exchange vows Saturday at 2 p.m. at Temple Baptist Church in Jonesboro. All family and friends are invited to the wedding and reception, which will follow in the family life center at the church.
Gracie Snyder Meeks of Delaplaine and Robert Paul Huskey of Portia exchanged vows at sunset on June 16, 2007, on Lake Norfork, near Henderson.
The bride is the daughter of Fred and Verna Snyder of Sedgwick. The groom is the son of Sue Huskey of Portia and the late Tex Huskey.
The bride was given in marriage by her son, Derek Meeks. She wore a white satin evening gown with a black bodice. Her bouquet was of white roses and satin ribbons.
The ceremony was officiated by Danny Whitmire of Portia.
Ariel Meeks, daughter of bride, served as maid-of-honor. Morgan Johnson of Hoxie served as bridesmaid.
Layton Huskey, son of groom, was best man.
Zackery Snyder of Jonesboro served as ring bearer. Music and seating were overseen by Coty Wadell of Walnut Ridge and Justin Stephens of Maynard.
A reception will be held to celebrate the marriage of Robert and Gracie Huskey on Saturday at 5 p.m. at the Portia Community Center, located next to Latham's Grocery. All friends and relatives are invited to attend.
Mike and Doris Willyerd of Leachville announce the engagement and forthcoming marriage of their daughter, Erin Willyerd of Leachville, to Matthew Tolson of Batesville, son of Ron and Marsha Tolson of Little Rock.
The bride-elect is the granddaughter of Nell Dean Blackwell of Leachville and the late Lee Blackwell, Florence Morris of Arbyrd, Mo., and the late Ed Willyerd and Dallas Morris.
She is a 2001 graduate of Buffalo Island Central High School and a 2007 graduate of University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences College of Pharmacy. She is employed as a pharmacist at White River Medical Center in Batesville.
The prospective groom is the grandson of Joan Dockins of Pocahontas and the late Eugene Dockins and Bill and Tommie Tolson of Walnut Ridge.
He is a 1999 graduate of Little Rock Central High School and a 2004 graduate of the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville. He is employed as an enrollment services representative for Lyon College in Batesville.
The couple will exchange vows on Aug. 4, 2007, at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Leachville. All family and friends are invited to the wedding and reception to follow in the fellowship hall.
Eugene Bailey Jr., 14, of Hoxie, died June 25, 2007, at Powhatan.
He was a student at Hoxie High School.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Caleb Bailey; and his grandmother, Mary Ann Kerley.
Survivors include his father, Eugene Bailey Sr.; his mother, Sarah Ann Bailey, Pennsylvania; his stepmother, Mary Bailey; two sisters, Lori Neely, Batesville, and Elaine Jones, Cave City; four brothers, Matthew Timmons, McGee, Mo., Jim Timmons, Batesville, and Leslie Bailey and Andrew Bailey, both of Walnut Ridge; and his grandparents, Gerald and Donna Kerley and Clifton McGlendon.
Graveside service was Friday at 2 p.m. at Old Lebanon Cemetery at Eaton. House-Gregg Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.
Pallbearers were Jim Timmons, Matthew Timmons, John Jones, Leslie Bailey, Jerry Wilkinson and Tommy Madden.
Barbara Joyce Bonner, 45, of Walnut Ridge, died July 2, 2007, at Harris Hospital, following a lengthy illness.
Born July 14, 1961, in Pocahontas, she was a certified nurse's assistant at Lawrence Hall Nursing Center and a homemaker. She was a member of the Jesus Name House of Prayer in Hoxie.
Survivors include her husband Larry Bonner, whom she married Sept. 25, 1981; a son, Shawn Bonner, Walnut Ridge; a daughter, Tracy Curtis, Walnut Ridge; her parents, Junior and Alta Marie Lee Meeker, Smithville; four sisters, June Bonner, Walnut Ridge, Mary Meeker and Jennifer Meeker, both of Smithville, and Becky Meeker, Hoxie; a brother, Denny Lee Meeker, Smithville; and three grandchildren, Kayla Ann Bonner, Jonathan Curtis and Victoria Curtis.
Funeral is today (Wednesday) at 2 p.m. in Bryan Chapel with Bro. Junior Meeker offiating. Burial will be in Whittaker Cemetery under the direction of Bryan Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from noon until time of the service.
Paul A. Dedmon, 87, of Egypt, died June 30, 2007, in Jonesboro.
Born at Swifton, he was the son of Calvin and Anna Sheets Dedmon. He had lived at Egypt most of his life and was a retired cotton ginner for Rainwater Gins. He was of the Assembly of God faith.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Juanita Minyard Dedmon; a stepson, Gary Graham; and a brother, A.C.
Survivors include his wife, Ethel Arnold Dedmon; a stepson, Michael Graham, Jonesboro; a stepdaughter, Kathy Pugh, Nashville, Tenn.; a foster son, Billy Williamson, Batesville; two sisters, Jewell Taylor, Egypt, and Ruby Cooper, Clarkston, Mich.; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral was Tuesday at 10 a.m. at House-Gregg Funeral Home with Gilly Campbell officiating. Burial was in Lawrence Memorial Park.
Pallbearers were Mike Graham, Joey Graham, Kevin Pugh, Blake McEntyre, Brandon McEntyre and Michael Joe Graham.
Jennifer Renee Goings, 42, of Miami, formerly of Walnut Ridge, died July 1, 2007, in Miami, of natural causes.
Arrangements will be announced by House-Gregg Funeral Home.
