In a sudden death play-off, the team of brothers Jimbo and Josh Everhart of Trumann came out ahead as victors over Joey Gill of Walnut Ridge and Ron Mangold of Pocahontas. Last year, the result was the opposite, with Gill and Mangold winning over the Everharts in a playoff.
The Walnut Ridge Country Club hosted the annual tournament on Saturday and Sunday. The event was organized in honor of the late Walter A. "Junie" Dowell Jr., a Walnut Ridge native and member of the Arkansas Sports Hall of Fame for his achievements in golf.
Thirty-six two-man teams participated, and Mother Nature cooperated as play ran uninterrupted throughout both days, despite the threat of showers in the area.
Highlights of the event included a Calcutta Saturday evening in conjunction with a barbecue dinner. Following the dinner, Sound Xtreme of Pocahontas played music for dancing until midnight.
The tournament winners are as follows:
First ~ Josh Everhart and Jimbo Everhart, both of Trumann.
