Portia Picnic offers
family entertainment

The 102nd annual Portia Picnic will kick off Thursday and continue through the Fourth of July holiday. The picnic will be closed on Sunday.

Miller Spectacular Shows Inc. will provide the midway attractions again this year. Johnny Miller, owner, has announced that armbands will be available for each night of the carnival.

Armbands may be purchased in advance for $12 and on the carnival grounds for $14. Advance armbands may be purchased at Harp's, Portia City Hall and Walnut Ridge City Hall.

There will be nightly entertainment, as well as the Independence Pageants, political speakers and the traditional Baby Show. Everyone is encouraged to bring their lawn chairs for the nightly entertainment.

Scheduled events are as follows:

Thursday

6 p.m. to close ~ Carnival armband night.

6:30-8:30 p.m. ~ The band, Wild Things, from Hardy will perform a variety of music.

Friday

6 p.m. to close ~ Carnival armband night.

6:30-8:30 p.m. ~ The Bottom of the Barrel Band will perform bluegrass/comedy.

A wrestling event will be held at the Portia Fire Department. The time will be announced.

Saturday

3 p.m. ~ Independence Pageants for 13 months to 19 years at the pavilion. (See entry form in this week's TD.)

6 p.m. to close ~ Carnival armband night.

6:30-8:30 p.m. ~ Karaoke provided by Rick Storey.

Sunday

The picnic will be closed, and no events will be held.

Monday

6 p.m. to close ~ Carnival armband night.

7-9 p.m. ~ The band, Gage Country, will perform country music.

Tuesday

6 p.m. to close ~ Carnival armband night.

7-9 p.m. ~ The band, Gage Country, will perform country music.

July 4

11 a.m. to close ~ Carnival.

1 p.m. ~ Political speaking at the pavilion.

2 p.m. ~ Baby Show registration begins.

4 p.m. ~ Baby Show contest begins.

6-8 p.m. ~ The band, Sticks-n-Strings, will play a variety of music.

9 p.m. ~ Fireworks.
