Sports Crusaders to
offer camp at WBC
The First Baptist Church of Walnut Ridge is sponsoring two soccer camps for children ages six to12, to be held at Williams Baptist College from June 25-29
Sports Crusaders, a not-for-profit organization of college athletes, will lead the camps, which will teach both the basics of soccer and principles of life.
"We are athletes who believe God gave us the skills to teach and play, but most of all to use these skills to open doors for us to share God's love," Bobby Shows, executive director of Sports Crusaders, said.
Founded in 1994, the ministry has continued to grow each year and has now expanded to 10 states and 14 countries.
Andrew Watson, a senior psychology major at WBC, worked with Sports Crusaders last year teaching at basketball camps.
"Sports Crusaders impacts the community because it brings kids together allowing them to have the opportunity to participate in athletics while fostering their Christian Growth," Watson said. "The week-long camp leaves a lasting impression on children as they are taught morals and values on and off the field by Christian coaches."
The first camp will be held from 9 a.m. to noon for children entering the first through third grades.
The second camp will be held from 1-4 p.m. for children entering the fourth through sixth grades.
Susan Watson, who is helping organize the soccer camp, said they have already had inquiries from Walnut Ridge, Hoxie, Pocahontas, Black Rock, Imboden and Hardy.
The cost is $25 per child and includes a T-shirt and awards. Space is limited per camp, and pre-registration is recommended.
Contact Becky Gore at 886-3960 or Susan Watson at 759-4188, for registration forms and more information.
Scholarships are available, as well as transportation, if requested.
