Former county Sheriff dies

Howard D. Fry, 72, of Pocahontas, formerly of Walnut Ridge, died June 6, 2007, in Little Rock.

Born in Arkansas, he lived most of his life in Lawrence County. He served as Lawrence County Sheriff from 1987 to 1990. He was retired from the military and was a member of the Apostolic Faith Church in Pocahontas.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jesse Fry and Audra Waldrupe; a brother, Lee Fry; and a sister, Freda Murphy.

Survivors include his wife, Wilma Fry; three sons, Michael Howard Fry and wife Dana, Houston, Manuel Lee Fry and wife Mary Alice, Jonesboro, and Mark Lavelle Fry and wife Coressa, Hoxie; a daughter, Michelle C. Moore and husband John, Walnut Ridge; two brothers, Chester Waldrupe, Walnut Ridge, and Junior Waldrupe, Hoxie; five sisters, Thelma Arthur, Paragould, Jessie Liles, Annieville, Lois Staten, Walnut Ridge, and Linda K. Tillman, Walnut Ridge, and Carolyn Bobo, Jonesboro; nine grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Funeral was Saturday at 2 p.m. at House-Gregg Funeral Home with Danny Wayne Murphy and Richard Mayhand officiating. Burial was in Lawrence Memorial Park.

Nephews served as pallbearers.
