Crum to compete in Miss Arkansas
Hollyann Crum of Walnut Ridge is gearing up for the upcoming Miss Arkansas pageant, which will be held June 20-23 in Hot Springs.
Crum, who has been competing in pageants for eight years, is the reigning Miss Northeast Arkansas. This title qualified her as a Miss Arkansas contestant. If she wins Miss Arkansas, she will compete in Miss America.
Judging for the event is based on a contestant's performance in a private interview which, will be held June 18; artistic expression or talent, which will be June 20; lifestyle and fitness or swim suit, which will be June 21; and presence and poise or evening gown and onstage question, June 22. Finals will be held on June 23.
Crum's platform for the pageant is "Empowering young women through Girl Scouts." Being a Girl Scout as a child, she said she learned invaluable lessons, and she now works as an adult volunteer for the Crowley's Ridge Girl Scout Council. At the annual awards banquet this year, she presented the gold and silver awards.
"I reminded the scouts that they are our leaders of tomorrow," said Crum, "that the future of America was sitting in that very room. And that as they grow into leaders, they will set a standard for this country to follow."
Crum is also active in other areas of the community and at Williams Baptist College, where she is a sophomore. She is a 2006 graduate of Walnut Ridge High School and is the daughter of John and Karen Crum of Walnut Ridge.
She said she has been preparing for this pageant since September when she was crowned Miss Northeast Arkansas. She recently completed "Beauty Boot Camp" along with other members of the Northeast Arkansas Pageant Association.
Crum will be competing against 44 other young ladies for the title of Miss Arkansas at the Summit Arena in Hot Springs.
Tickets may be purchased at www.summitarena.org or by calling the Miss Arkansas Pageant office at 501-321-3506.
