Births
Tim and Erin Ward of Paragould have announced the birth of a son on May 30, 2007, at St. Bernards in Jonesboro. The baby weighed six pounds, four ounces, and has been named Lance David Ward.
He has an older brother, Shelton Ward, five.
Grandparents are David and Jody Holman and Don and Sharon Ward, all of Paragould, and Johnny and Twila Holder of Walnut Ridge. He is the great-grandson of Generee Holder of Walnut Ridge, Evelyn Wilson of Paragould and Altie Stewart of Marmaduke.
Weddings/Engagements
Dwayne and Carol Beller of Walnut Ridge have announced the engagement and forthcoming marriage of their daughter, Katy Suzanne Marie Beller, to James Blake Hutchinson, son of Marty and Jeannie Hutchinson of Tuckerman.
The bride-elect is the granddaughter of the late Harold Beller and Ann Beller of Walnut Ridge and the late Shelby Fry and Betty Fry of Hoxie. She is a 2007 graduate of Black Rock High School.
The prospective groom is the grandson of the late J.A. Hutchinson and Juanita Hutchinson of Swifton and Dave and Clara Dennison of Tuckerman. He is a 2004 graduate of Tuckerman High School and is employed by Arkansas Steel in Newport.
The couple will exchange vows on Saturday, June 16, at 3 p.m. at First Assembly of God in Walnut Ridge. All family and friends are welcome. A reception will follow in the church's fellowship hall.
Stephanie Lynn Davis became the bride of David Lee Roberts on May 19, 2007, at Stewart Park.
J.P. Morgan officiated at the informal double ring ceremony.
The bride is the daughter of Debbie and Kenny Hanshaw of Walnut Ridge and the late Melvin Davis Jr. She is the granddaughter of Maurine and Lavelle Segraves of Walnut Ridge and the late Melvin and Mary Davis. A graduate of Walnut Ridge High School, she is a student at the Northeast Arkansas School of Massage.
The groom is the son of Lance Roberts and Sherri Roberts, both of Jonesboro. He is the grandson of Aaron Roberts of Jonesboro and the late Coy Roberts and the late Elfredra Tosh and Ernest Tosh. He is a graduate of Nettleton High School and is in the Air Force.
Mr. and Mrs. Duffie Williams of Hoxie have announced the engagement and forthcoming marriage of their daughter, Jenny Williams, to Josh Bruce, son of Spencer and Jean Ann Bruce of Pocahontas.
The bride-elect is the granddaughter of Joe and Lou Romine of Hoxie and Bobbie Williams of Walnut Ridge and the late Duffie Williams. She is a 2004 graduate of Hoxie High School and is employed at Pulaski Bank in Walnut Ridge.
The prospective groom is the grandson of Charles and Imogene Smith of Imboden and the late Joy and Eula Bruce. He is a 2003 graduate of Hoxie High School and is employed at Gill Farms.
The couple will exchange vows on July 21 at 3 p.m. at Arbor Grove Free Will Baptist Church. All friends and relatives are invited to the wedding and reception, which will follow in the church's fellowship hall.
Obituaries
Lottie Baird, 92, of Hoxie, died June 1, 2007, at Jonesboro.
She lived most of her life in Hoxie and had been in Walnut Ridge Nursing and Rehabilitation for the past two years. She was a retired cook at Lawrence Memorial Hospital, a homemaker and a Jehovah's Witness.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James Darrell Baird; two infant sons; and three brothers.
Survivors include a daughter, Bonnie Murphy, Spring, Texas; five sons, Jim Baird, Riverside, Calif., Jackie Baird, Springfield, Mo., John Baird, Tennessee, Bob Baird, Richmond, Texas, and David Baird, New Lenox, Ill.; a brother, Bill Tubbs, Jonesboro; two sisters, Lillie Lewis, Walnut Ridge, and Francis Smith, Sedgwick; 18 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral was Monday at 11 a.m. at House-Gregg Funeral Home with Morris Phillips officiating. Burial was in Old Military Cemetery near Sedgwick.
Grandsons served as pallbearers.
Larry Gene Carson, 47, of Mountain Home, died June 3, 2007, near Yellville.
He lived most of his life in Walnut Ridge and had lived in Mountain Home for the past three years. He was a U.S. Army veteran, a landscaper and a Baptist.
He was preceded in death by his father, Frank Carson.
Survivors include a daughter, Courtney Carson, Walnut Ridge; his mother, Wanda Carson, Mountain Home, formerly of Walnut Ridge; two sisters, Jane Goodman, Jonesboro, and Judy Thomas, San Angelo, Texas; three brothers, Billy Carson, Walnut Ridge, Donald Carson, Easly, S.C., and Ronnie Carson, Bull Shoals; and a grandson, Tyler Carson.
Funeral is today at 11 a.m. at House-Gregg Funeral Home with Mark Harris officiating. Burial will be in Lawrence Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be Derek Carson, Ron Ingram, Wesley Carson, Scott Moore, Mike Carson and Randy Kisling. Honorary pallbearers will be Billy Carson, Donald Carson and Ronnie Carson.
Freddy Wayne Collins, 67, of Walnut Ridge, died June 2, 2007, at the V.A. Hospital in Poplar Bluff, Mo.
He lived most of his life in Walnut Ridge and was a U.S. Army veteran, a retired construction worker and a Baptist.
He was preceded in death by his father, Hobert Collins; and a brother, Sonny Collins.
Survivors include his mother, Louise Wilburn Collins, of the home; two brothers, Danny Collins, Springdale, and Ricky Collins, Walnut Ridge; and three sisters, Marcelle Hibbs, Walnut Ridge, Beverly Lakey, Hoxie, and Kathy Bartlett, Searcy.
Graveside service was Tuesday at 10 a.m. at Lawrence Memorial Park with Leroy Scudder officiating. House-Gregg Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.
Frances Leota Denison, 77, of Walnut Ridge, died June 4, 2007, in Walnut Ridge.
Born in Lake City, she was the daughter of Floyd and Pollie Pickle. She lived in California for 32 years before returning to Arkansas. She was a homemaker and a member of the Church of Christ.
Survivors include her husband, Sanford Denison; a son, Larry Denison, Walnut Ridge; a daughter, Selma Jean Eddings, Bend, Ore.; and two great-grandchildren, James and Andrew.
Funeral will be Saturday at 10 a.m. at House-Gregg Funeral Home with Herbert Knight officiating. Burial will be in Kellers Chapel Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Larry Denison, Ronnie Eddings, Lloyd Martz, Gary Hinds, Billy Denison, Billie Clinton, Phillip Clinton, Robert Denison and Donna Combs. Nieces and nephews will serve as honorary pallbearers.
Visitation will be Friday from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.
Bernice Mae Fossett, 80, of Delaplaine died June 3, 2007, at St. Bernards in Jonesboro.
Born Nov. 1, 1926, in Greene County, she was the daughter of Basel and Aris Copeland Nation. She was a retired factory worker and a homemaker. She was a member of the Delaplaine Church Of Christ.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Willis Marcy "Mark" Fossett; and a great-grandchild.
Survivors include two sons, Weldon Fossett and wife Sharon, Huntingtown, Md., and Wayne Fossett and wife Marcie, Owings, Md.; a daughter, Marsha McInnis and husband Dan, Madison, Miss.; three half-brothers, Carl Roberson, West Plains, Mo., Alton Roberson, Holder, Mo., and Jerry Roberson, Texas; a half-sister, Faye Spoor, Texas; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.
Funeral service is today at 1 p.m. at Heath Colonial Chapel in Paragould with Rev. L.R. Smith officiating. Burial will be in Greene County Memorial Gardens.
Florence McGonigal, 62, of White Settlement, Texas, died June 2, 2007, in Texas.
She was a Catholic.
Survivors include her husband, Manual McGonigal, formerly of Alicia; a daughter, Shelia Janzen, Fort Worth, Texas; two brothers; two sisters; and three grandchildren, Coby, Corrine and Ambra.
Graveside service is today at 4 p.m. at Strangers Home Cemetery with Father Paul Worm officiating.
Thelma Elizabeth Moseley, 94, of Walnut Ridge, formerly of Alicia, died June 4, 2007.
Born in Doniphan, Mo., she was the daughter of John and Martha Jane Taylor Williams. She was a homemaker and had been a Grey Lady volunteer. She had formerly belonged to the Walnut Ridge Garden Club and the Alicia Church of Christ.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Arnold Moseley; and a sister, Jessie Marie Tedrick.
Survivors include a son, Ray Moseley, Walnut Ridge; a daughter, Martha Everitt, Heber Springs; and a brother, J.T. Williams, Jonesboro.
Graveside service is today at 2 p.m. at Strangers Home Cemetery at Alicia with Lloyd Clark officiating.
Memorials may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
Alta Mae Newell, 74, of Trumann, sister of Inez Broadway of Imboden, died June 3, 2007, at St. Bernards in Jonesboro. Funeral is today at 10 a.m. at Thompson Funeral Home in Trumann. Dennis Allen Shaw, 64, of Helena, died May 31, 2007, at his home.
Born in Memphis, he had lived in Helena for the past 20 years.
Survivors include a brother, Denny Shaw, Eufaula, Ala.
Graveside service was Saturday at 1 p.m. at Crossroad Cemetery near Portia under the direction of House-Gregg Funeral Home.
