According to Captain Jody Dotson of the Lawrence County Sheriff's Department, the accident occurred at approximately 6:40 a.m. and was worked by Deputy Jeremy Riggs.
Riggs' report states that Larry Gandy, 55, of Alabama was coming in for a landing when the plane veered off course and struck a ditch on the south side of the runway. Witnesses said the plane then bounced back into the air, hit a levy and flipped forward landing upright in the field.
Riggs stated that Gandy was out of the plane and walking around and did not appear to have serious injuries. He was transported by Medic One to St. Bernards in Jonesboro.
Both the Walnut Ridge and Hoxie fire departments also assisted at the scene.
