Seth Chamblee (center) has signed his letter of intent to play football for Henderson State University in Arkadelphia. Present for the announcement on Friday morning were his parents, Sherry Chamblee (seated, left) of Walnut Ridge and Jim Chamblee of Garner, N.C.; Walnut Ridge head football coach Larry Treadway (back, left) and WRHS assistant coach Joe Fisher.
Seth Chamblee a basketball and football standout at Walnut Ridge High School had committed to play football at Henderson State University in Arkadelphia.
Chamblee said he is also considering walking on for the Reddie basketball team.
Walnut Ridge head football coach Larry Treadway said Chamblee is a two-year All-District selection in both football and basketball.
"He caught 57 passes in football this year," Treadway said, emphasizing that the team had outstanding running backs and the passing game was not heavily used. "He didn't drop many passes. We probably should have thrown to him more."
HSU head football coach Scott Maxfield said Chamblee will be a good addition to the Reddie football team.
"We run the spread offense and Seth will fit into our plans really well," Maxfield said. Chamblee is excited about being able to continue his athletic career, but Henderson's academics had a lot to do with his choice, as well.
"It's a good school," he said. "I like the art program."
Chamblee plans to major in art at HSU.
Treadway said Chamblee is a well-rounded recruit for Henderson, bringing athletic talent, artistic ability and academic accomplishments to the table.
"He's a bright young man," Treadway said. "We're proud of him."
Also present for the announcement of Chamblee's signing were his parents, Sherry Chamblee of Walnut Ridge and Jim Chamblee of Garner, N.C., and WRHS assistant coach Joe Fisher.
