Petty named FB agency manager
Petty said he applied for the job and was selected as a candidate by State Farm Bureau management in Little Rock, who then presented him to the County Farm Bureau Board for approval.
Petty has assumed the position previously held by longtime career agency manager Bill Edmondson, who passed away in early March. Edmondson was Petty's friend and mentor and was agency manager here for some 38 years.
"I owe a lot of my success to Bill in helping me with this career path," he said.
"I feel like it's been a real blessing and an honor for me and my family to be back in Lawrence County. It's been a dream come true for me (to be agency manager) Ð especially here at home," Petty added.
Petty spent most of his youth growing up in Sedgwick and is the son of John and Betty Petty of Sedgwick.
His wife of 14 years, the former Valerie Spencer, is a native of West Memphis. They are the parents of three children: Stephann, age 10, Christen, age 8, and Chase, age 6. They attend the Walnut Ridge School.
Petty graduated from Walnut Ridge High School in 1983 and earned a bachelor's degree in finance from Arkansas State University in 1987.
In 1988, he went to work for Farm Bureau as an adjuster in Batesville. In 1989, he transferred to the Little Rock office after the opening of a new drive-in claims center.
Then, in 1991, Petty was transferred to Blytheville as an adjuster, and in 1995, he transferred to Farm Bureau in Jonesboro.
In 1994, Petty was named the statewide Adjuster of the Year, and in 1996, he was promoted to senior adjuster. In January 2002 he became an agent in Lawrence County and was awarded the statewide Rookie of the Year out of all new agents.
Petty has also been the number one Career Agent of Year for new life insurance premiums. He won this award out of over 300 agents in the state.
Petty has also won six family All-Star trips, one each year since becoming an agent. He also received two Round Table trips for himself and his wife. One was to New York City in 2002 and the other was to London in 2003.
Other awards he has received include a National Multi-line Sales Award in 2003, a National Sales Achievement Award in 2003 and a National Quality Award in 2004.
"I enjoy working for Farm Bureau, and I hope to keep working here for a long time," Petty said.
