WR man dies in accidentA two-vehicle accident on May 9 resulted in the death of a Walnut Ridge man, according to Cpl. R.T. Riggs of the Walnut Ridge Police Department.
William J. Williams, 85, died when the 1988 Mazda pickup he was driving crossed the centerline and collided head-on with a 2004 Dodge pickup.
According to the report, the accident occurred at 7:05 p.m. on West Free Street. The Mazda was westbound, and the Dodge was eastbound. Riggs' report states that it was raining at the time and the road was wet.
The driver of the Dodge, Benjamin Mankey, 27, of Black Rock, and his passenger, Mandie Hanson, 30, also of Black Rock, were both injured in the accident and were taken to Lawrence Memorial Hospital. Another passenger in the Dodge, Kadin Hanson, four months, was not injured.
According to witnesses, Williams apparently had some type of medical problem that caused the accident and was slumped over in the truck when he crossed the centerline.
