Baseball Bobcats are county champs

The Walnut Ridge Bobcats claimed the title in the 2007 Lawrence County Baseball Tournament with a 13-12 win over the Hillcrest Screamin' Eagles on April 18. The title was the 12th consecutive for the Bobcats in the county tournament.
The first inning was scoreless, but each club recorded a run in the second inning.
Walnut Ridge scored four runs in the third, to the Eagles' two, to take a 5-3 lead.
The Eagles recorded six runs in the fourth inning to the Bobcats three, to move ahead 9-8. Hillcrest scored three runs in the fifth inning, to Walnut Ridge's two, as the Eagles continued to lead 12-10 heading into the sixth inning.
Walnut Ridge held Hillcrest scoreless in the top of the final inning, as the Bobcats scored three runs to take the victory.
Curtis Jackson pitched two innings in relief and took the win on the mound. Jackson allowed three runs on four hits, striking out four and walking one. Brandon Dawson earned the final three outs on four pitches.
Chris Logan, Noah Burnside and Heath Kennedy all notched home runs for Walnut Ridge. William Wilcoxson, Logan, Kennedy and Ryan Weir each batted 2-for-3. Logan scored three runs and had three RBIs. Weir and Kennedy each recorded two RBIs.
Hillcrest's Jared Parker suffered the loss, pitching in relief of Micheal Spain. Parker pitched 3 1/3 innings, allowing six runs on seven hits and walking one.
Marcus Huskey, Aaron Britton, Jared Cook, Jordan Hunter and Spain each recorded two hits. Britton batted 2-for-3 with two doubles and scored two runs. Huskey hit 2-for-5 with two RBIs and scored two runs. Cook hit 2-for-4 with two RBIs and scored two runs, and Hunter recorded three RBIs.
Black Rock and Hillcrest took to the field in the first semifinal game of the county tournament.
The Eagles scored two runs in the bottom of the third, and Black Rock recorded a run in the fourth to cut Hillcrest's lead to 2-1.
The Eagles scored three runs in the sixth inning to lead 5-1. The Eagles held the Zebras to two runs in seventh inning to secure the 5-3 win.
Cook earned the win, striking out 16, giving up three hits and walking six.
Hunter hit 2-for-2 with a triple and a double. Derek Wooten, Cook, Britton, Kyle Bristow and Donnie Fowler all recorded hits.
Mitch Thompson took the loss for Black Rock, pitching six innings, with 12 strikeouts.
Matt Chadwick batted 1-for-3 with a single and an RBI. Tommy Lawrence hit 2-for-3 with two RBIs.
Walnut Ridge defeated Hoxie 11-3 in the second semifinal game of the county tournament.
Bobcat Tyler Kennedy collected seven hits. Bennett Dudley batted 3-for-4. Logan went 2-for-4 with two RBIs. Wilcoxson hit 2-for-4 and scored three runs.
Hoxie's Tanner Jarrett took the loss, pitching 3 2/3 innings and giving up seven runs on seven hits, while walking five and striking out two.
Tyler Crisler earned an RBI single in the final inning, and Blake Snow closed with two hits.
Hoxie earned its spot in the semifinals with a 9-2 win over Sloan-Hendrix.
Hoxie scored three runs in the first inning, followed by a run in the second. The Mustangs added two runs in the fourth and fifth innings, and closed with one run in the sixth.
Jake Hitt took the win from the mound, pitching 6 1/3 innings and giving up two runs on six hits.
Mustang Blake Snow hit 2-for-3 with an RBI. Billy Mike Watson closed with two hits.
Waylon Rogers was the losing pitcher for Sloan-Hendrix.
Greyhound Stanley Archer was 3-for-3 at the plate with an RBI, and Zack Ogden closed with two hits.
