Mustangs win one, lose two
Staff Writer Hoxie traveled to Marmaduke on Thursday for baseball action. The Mustangs fell to the Greyhounds 15-0 in three innings. Marmaduke scored three runs in the first inning, eight in the second and four in the third. Jonathan Lawrence and Tyler Crisler each had a hit for Hoxie. Billy Mike Watson was the losing pitcher. Hoxie's record now stands at 7-15 overall and 5-6 in 3A-3 North Conference play.
The Mustangs took a road trip to Corning on April 10 and defeated the Bobcats 11-9. Hoxie scored three runs in the first inning and two in the second. The Bobcats tied the game with five runs in the third inning before Hoxie added single runs in the fourth and fifth innings. Corning batted in four runs in the fifth inning to take a 9-7 lead, but Hoxie followed up with four in the sixth to take the win. Lawrence pitched 2-2/3 innings in relief to earn the win. Jake Hitt went 3-for-4 at the plate with two RBIs and scored one run. Lawrence went 3-for-4 with an RBI and scored three runs. Blaine Middlecoff and Crisler had two hits each. The win guaranteed the Mustangs second place in the 3A-3 North conference.
The Valley View Blazers defeated the Mustangs 15-1 on April 9 at Hoxie. The Blazers scored four runs in the first inning to the Mustangs' one. Valley View added two in the second inning, one run in the fifth and closed the game with seven in the sixth. Hoxie's Hitt was the losing pitcher. Lawrence batted 2-for-2, and Cody Bass hit 1-for-3 with an RBI. |
