WR sweeps Hillcrest

Walnut Ridge hosted Hillcrest for a high school baseball doubleheader on April 9.

Walnut Ridge claimed a 6-5 win in the first game.

The Bobcats scored one run in the first inning, but Hillcrest stepped up and took a 2-1 lead at the close of the second.

The Eagles added a run in the third, but the Cats scored two runs to tie the match 3-3.

Walnut Ridge scored one run in the fourth and added two runs in the bottom of the sixth to take a 6-3 lead.

Tyler Kennedy pitched seven innings and earned the win from the mound. He allowed five runs on six hits, with nine strikeouts and one walk.

At the plate for the Bobcats, Jared Blackwell batted 4-of-4 with a double and scored three runs and had a stolen base. William Wilcoxson hit 1-for-1 with one RBI and scored a run and had a stolen base. Brandon Dawson had an RBI. Bennett Dudley hit 1-for-2. Tyler Kennedy went 1-for-2, scored two runs and had a stolen base.

Jared Cook took the loss from the mound, allowing seven hits, six runs, walking six and striking out nine in six innings.

Jordan Hunter batted 3-for-4 with a run, an RBI and a stolen base. Michael Spain hit 1-for-3 with two RBIs. Aaron Britton hit 1-for-4. Marcus Huskey went 1-for-4, scored two runs and had a stolen base. Derek Wooten scored a run, and Cook had a stolen base.

In the late game Hillcrest scored two runs to Walnut Ridge's one in the first inning. Walnut Ridge then scored two runs to Hillcrest's one, trying the game 3-3.

The Bobcats scored two runs in the fourth inning, two in the fifth and five in the sixth to move out to a 12-3 lead.

Hillcrest scored once in the seventh as the Bobcats completed the sweep with a 12-4 win.

Blackwell pitched six innings, allowing four runs on eight hits, walking four and striking out 12. Dawson pitched the last inning and recorded two strikeouts.

Blackwell batted 2-for-4 with a double, scored three runs and had a stolen base. Baron Lorance hit 2-for-4 with an RBI and had a stolen base. Noah Burnside was 3-for-5 at the plate and scored two runs. Dawson was 2-for-5 with a double and three RBIs and scored a run. Wilcoxson hit 1-for-2 with an RBI and scored two runs. Chris Logan hit 1-for-4 with a double, scored a run and had a stolen base. Tom Jackson hit 1-for-5 with a double and two RBIs and scored a run. Heath Kennedy went 1-for-3 with an RBI and scored a run. Tyler Kennedy batted 1-for-4 with an RBI.

Spain took the loss for Hillcrest, pitching five innings and allowing seven runs on eight hits, with seven strikeouts and three walks. Wooten finished the game, pitching two innings and allowing five runs on six hits, with four strikeouts and eight walks.

Cook batted 3-for-4, including a home run and two RBIs, scored two runs and had a stolen base. Hunter batted 2-for-3. Britton hit 1-for-2 with an RBI and had a stolen base. Donnie Fowler and Wooten each batted 1-for-3, with Wooten scoring two runs and recording a stolen base.
