Lawrence County tourney postponed

Mother Nature proved to be the winner in the Lawrence County baseball and softball tournaments at Black Rock over the weekend as rain on Friday and Saturday forced action to be postponed until Tuesday afternoon.

Due to the delay, the softball tournament will be played in a single-elimination format instead of double-elimination, as originally planned. All softball games were scheduled to take place on Tuesday.

Walnut Ridge was scheduled to play Hoxie at 4 p.m. in one semifinal game.

Black Rock, which defeated Sloan-Hendrix on Thursday, was to face Hillcrest at 5:30 in the other semifinal matchup.

The championship game was set for 7 p.m.

In the baseball tournament, Hoxie was scheduled to play Sloan-Hendrix at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, with the winner taking on Walnut Ridge at 5:30 in the first semifinal game.

Hillcrest and Black Rock were to play at 7:30 in the second semifinal contest.

The baseball final will be played today at 4 p.m.

Coverage of the tournament will be in next week's issue.
