Annexation ordinance
repealed by Hoxie

Hoxie City Council voted to repeal Ordinance 2007-3 related to the simultaneous detachment and annexation of land currently within Walnut Ridge city limits during their regular meeting last week.
The decision was made after the Walnut Ridge City Council decided to take no official action on Hoxie's request that Walnut Ridge release the land to Hoxie.
During the meeting, aldermen heard a recommendation from Dewey Scott of the reuse committee to purchase a piece of land, located on Southwest Broad Street, from an individual for $3,200. The city currently owns two lots adjacent to this property.
A motion was made to enter into a purchase agreement, but did not pass.
In other business:
- the council approved cell phone reimbursement of $20 per month for James Houston.
- Alderman Jim Kirksey requested a monthly report from the police department similar to the one council members receive from the fire department.
- Mayor Donnie Roberts commended the fire department for their hard work.
- the council discussed a service truck, recently purchased by the fire department, which will carry essential equipment including a generator.
