Hoxie boys drop twoDebbie Richey
The Hoxie Mustangs baseball team traveled to Jonesboro on Friday to take on the Westside Warriors.
Hoxie got on the scoreboard first, with three runs in the second inning. Westside answered with seven runs in the third inning to take a 7-3 lead.
Hoxie scored a run in the fourth inning, and the Warriors scored one in the fifth to make the score 8-4.
Westside scored on a Hoxie throwing error in the bottom of the seventh to take the win 9-8.
Jake Hitt was the starting pitcher for Hoxie and earned a no decision after Hoxie tied the game in the seventh inning. Jonathan Lawrence stepped in as relief in the fifth inning and took the loss.
Tanner Jarrett, Blake Snow and Cody Bass were all 2-for-4 at the plate for Hoxie, with Jarrett and Bass recording doubles.
The Marked Tree Indians defeated Hoxie 4-3 in 10 innings on Thursday at Marked Tree.
Hoxie scored a run in the second inning on a fielder's choice by Tyler Crisler and added a run in the sixth inning on an RBI single by Jeremy Anglin.
Marked Tree scored two runs in the sixth inning to tie the game.
Hoxie took the lead in the ninth on an RBI single by Snow, but Marked Tree tied the game in the bottom of the ninth and won on a sacrifice fly in the 10th.
Jarrett pitched the maximum eight innings and gave up two runs and struck out five. Lawrence took the loss in relief.
Blaine Middlecoff was 2-for-5 at bat for Hoxie.
