Smith excited about
serving in Strawberry

The newly-elected mayor of Strawberry, Jared Smith, is excited about serving his community.

Smith walked through the doors with some experience working with the city of Strawberry, as he was a member of the city council before he was elected mayor.

The mayor also faced some challenges early on in his term. On Dec. 31, a car was driven through the Strawberry Community Center, and Smith's first obligation as mayor was working with city employees to repair the center.

Smith stated that he is "just getting a feel for the position and seeing how things go."

A lifetime resident of the Strawberry area, Smith graduated from River Valley High School and lived in Jesup until he was married two years ago. After his marriage, Smith moved to Strawberry.

Smith said he has positive feelings toward being elected.

"I am excited about the position," he said, "and I'm looking forward to seeing what I can do to help the community of Strawberry."

The mayor is currently completing a degree in agriculture at Arkansas State University. He lives in Strawberry with his wife, Leslee, and sons, Chase, 4, who attends preschool in Strawberry, and Ayden, who will be a year old in May.
