Accident claims one lifeA car-train accident on Sunday night resulted in the death of a Black Rock native, according to a report released by the Arkansas State Police.
Briana L. Bopp Arford, 24, of Newport was killed when the 2002 Hyundai Elantra she was driving was struck by an eastbound Burlington Northern Santa Fe train at the County Road 635 railroad crossing in Sedgwick.
The accident occurred at approximately 5:05 p.m., and Arford was pronounced dead at the scene by Lawrence County Deputy Coroner Chris Warden.
A 2001 valedictorian of Black Rock High School, Arford was a teacher at Newport Special School. Funeral services will be Thursday afternoon at 2 at House-Gregg Chapel in Walnut Ridge.
