Bobcats defeat WCC
Walnut Ridge hosted White County Central in high school baseball on March 19 and took a 17-6 victory over the Bears.
WCC took a 4-2 lead at the close of the first inning and increased the lead to 6-2 to close the second.
Walnut Ridge scored two runs in the third inning to cut the deficit to 6-4. The Bobcats owned the fourth inning, scoring 11 runs, and then added two more runs in the sixth to take the win.
Tyler Kennedy earned the win, pitching seven innings, striking out 10, walking two and giving up six runs on six hits.
Bobcat Ryan Weir hit for the cycle, batting 4-for-5 with four RBIs. Chris Logan went 4-for-4 with four RBIs, including a double and a triple, with one stolen base, scoring two runs. Logan Gaither had two stolen bases and scored three runs.
William Wilcoxson went 2-for-5 and scored three runs. Noah Burnside went 1-for-1 with a double and two RBIs and scored one run. Jerrod Blackwell hit 1-for-4, with a double and scored two runs. Brandon Dawson batted 1-for-2, with a double and an RBI and scored one run.
Walnut Ridge hosted Quitman on March 16 and blasted the Bulldogs 15-0.
The Bobcats took a 5-0 first-inning lead and increased it to 9-0 in the second inning and 21-0 at the close of the third.
Weir took the win, allowing one hit, with eight strikeouts and two walks in five innings.
Offensively for the Cats, Bennett Dudley scored three runs. Wilcoxson batted 1-for-2 with a double and scored two runs. Weir batted 1-for-2 with an RBI and scored four runs. Logan went 3-for-3 with four RBIs and scored two runs. Burnside hit 1-for-3 with two RBIs, a stolen base and scored two runs. Luke Holloway closed with two RBIs. Dawson hit 2-for-3 with a double, an RBI and a stolen base and scored a run. Tom Jackson had two hits and two RBIs, and Baron Lorance had two hits.
The Tuckerman Bulldogs defeated Walnut Ridge 12-1 in high school baseball on March 20.
