Baseball Mustangs beat Brookland
Hoxie's Jake Hitt takes a turn at bat during the Mustangs' 11-1 loss to Marked Tree.
The Hoxie Mustangs defeated Brookland 13-4 in high school baseball on Friday at Brookland.
Hoxie scored two in the first, one in the third, three in the fourth, two in the sixth and five in the seventh, including Tyler Crisler's grand slam.
Brookland scored two in the first, and one in each the second and third innings.
Tanner Jarrett was the winning pitcher pitching all seven innings. He gave up nine hits, walked one and struck out six.
Jarrett was 4-for-4 batting with three RBIs and three runs scored. Tyler Crisler and Cade Crisler each had three hits. Jonathan Lawrence, Billy Mike Watson, Blake Snow and Cody Bass each had two hits.
Hoxie lost to East Poinsett County 14-8 on Thursday at Lepanto.
EPC scored three in the first, two in the second, eight in the third and one in the fifth.
Hoxie scored one in the second, six in the third and one in the fifth.
Jake Hitt was the losing pitcher.
Jarrett was 3-for-3 with two doubles, two RBIs and one run scored. Watson was 2-for-5 with two RBIs and a run scored. Lawrence, Hitt, Snow and Bass each had one hit.
Hoxie earned its second win of the season with a 7-3 win at Piggott on March 13.
Each team scored one run in the first inning. Hoxie added three in the third and three in the sixth to take the win.
Lawrence pitched a complete game, allowing three runs, walking one and striking out nine.
He batted 2-for-3 with an RBI and scored two runs. Cade Crisler hit 2-for-3 with an RBI and scored two runs. Bass hit 2-for-3 and scored a run. Blaine Liscomb hit 2-for-4.
The Mustangs lost to Marked Tree 11-1 on March 12 at Hoxie.
Hoxie scored one run in the first inning, but the Indians had scored eight runs by the fourth inning. Marked Tree added two in the fifth and a final run in the sixth to seal the win.
Lawrence went 1-for-1 at bat and scored Hoxie's only run. Liscomb batted 2-for-4.
Watson pitched 3 2/3 innings and took the loss.
