Tinker addresses council
Lanny Tinker, chair of Hoxie's beautification committee, spoke to the city council during their regular meeting last week, giving them a direction in which to begin the beautification process.
Tinker asked the aldermen three questions before beginning, "Where are we at now, where do we want to go and how are we going to get there?"
His presentation included a slide show of several properties that need attention, during which Tinker told council members, "If you were a business investor looking at Hoxie, this is what you would see."
The show did include one of Tinker's own properties, and several properties that are well kept.
"Sometimes we get so used to something that we don't really see it anymore," Tinker said.
During the presentation, Tinker focused on the time and effort that would have to be put into the project, saying that good leadership is necessary for sustainable change. He added that the administration would have to commit and that council members will have to "hold the vision with unwavering audacity."
"We have to pickup, cleanup, paint up, fix-up and carry off," Tinker said, saying that this project will probably be a three-year commitment. "It's going to take that long to see real change."
Hoxie Mayor Donnie Roberts, recommended Tinker to head this venture, saying that he was definitely the most qualified.
