Make-n-Take Center
highlight at local co-op

By Sherry Moore
Guest Writer

The Northeast Arkansas Educational Cooperative Teacher Center, better known as the Make-n-Take, is probably the feature attraction as far as the general public is concerned. The Make-n-Take is staffed by Linda Davis, materials specialist, and Kim Bounds, materials assistant.

The Make-n-Take had approximately 6,000 users during the 2005-2006 school year. It is utilized by the 21 member schools in the cooperative as well as by other Arkansas co-ops and even out-of-state schools. Other agencies making use of its services include private schools, head starts, daycare centers, churches, pre-school centers, civic clubs, libraries, colleges and literacy councils.

Services provided by the Make-n-Take include hands-on training in producing teaching aids, ready-made packages of teaching materials and various other resources which provide inspiration for its visitors.

Over 600 resource books are available, covering a wide range of subjects and age levels. More than 600 Ellison dies are available for use in addition to eight complete sets of alphabets and matching numerals. Students of all ages use these to create displays and presentations for classroom assignments and competitive events, such as science fairs and FCCLA STAR Events. Many area students have taken work created here to state and national competitions.

School delivery and mail orders are an integral part of the Make-n-Take services. Member schools place their orders for delivery by the media staff on their weekly rounds.

The Teacher Center serves students in the early childhood programs for both Arkansas State University and Williams Baptist College, along with several Tennessee and Missouri schools. Many homeschool educators are regular customers as well.

Several Shading Workshops are conducted each year for developing seasonal materials, early childhood lessons, original book creations and specific subject area themes, such as math and science. Some of these are for specific groups, but many are open to any interested individuals.

If you have not yet discovered the Make-n-Take, stop by and get acquainted. If you are already familiar with it, stop by and see the many new resources available there. The scenery changes with the seasons. If you don't know exactly what you want, or like me, feel limited in your creative abilities, Linda and Kim are always eager to assist with a unique creation for your special needs.

St. Patrick's Day, Easter and spring are currently in the air, with an eye ahead for your upcoming graduation needs.
