Mustangs open season with shutoutDebbie Richey
Hoxie hosted Brookland in the 2007 baseball season opener on Feb. 27.
Tanner Jarrett pitched a complete game shutout as the Mustangs picked up a 2-0 victory.
In the bottom of the fifth inning, Cade Crisler walked with the bases loaded, sending in Blake Snow to score.
Billy Mike Watson led off the bottom of the sixth with a single and took second base on an error by Brookland. Jake Hitt batted a grounder to the pitcher, who fumbled the ball and made a throwing error to third base, allowing Watson to score.
Jarrett took the win, striking out seven and walking three in seven innings.
Hitt and Cade Crisler each recorded an RBI. Watson and Snow notched runs for the day.
Hoxie lost to the Corning Bobcats 5-4 on Friday at Hoxie.
Hoxie started the night scoring one run in the first inning, another in the third, one in the fifth and closed with a final run in the sixth inning.
Corning scored one run in the first inning, single runs in both the third and fourth, and took the win with three runs in the fifth inning.
Mustang Jonathan Lawrence batted two-for-four and scored two runs. Jarrett went two-for-four at bat, and Tyler Crisler hit one-for-four, with two RBI's.
Lawrence was the losing pitcher, striking out 11 and walking two in seven innings.
Hoxie's record is 1-3 overall and 1-1 in conference play.
