Two die in
Two local men died in a house fire in Hoxie Sunday when a wood stove fire got out of control.
The Hoxie Police Department and Arkansas State Police are investigating the deaths of Gary Blazer and Troy Brown, both of Hoxie, who were killed in a house fire at 309 Northeast Third Street in Hoxie, early Sunday morning. At this time foul play is not suspected.
Hoxie Police Department Detective David Burnside said that the Hoxie Fire and Police departments were notified at 12:38 a.m. Burnside was first on the scene, where he said he found a cinder block house, totally involved, with fire coming from the roof and windows.
When the fire department arrived, Burnside assisted them with equipment. He said there was no electricity or gas running to the residence, so Blazer and Brown had been using oil lamps for light and wood heat.
The two bodies were discovered while firemen were checking for hot spots, after the fire was out. A third body was found, but was dismissed at the scene as a dog.
Burnside advised the fire department immediately and contacted Arkansas State Police Arson investigators. Pardo Roberts, Stan Witt, John Carter and Keit Kon reported to the scene. Kon has since been assigned to the investigation.
Lawrence County Coroner Robert Warden pronounced the two dead at the scene. Both bodies were sent to the crime lab in Little Rock, where they were positively identified as Gary Wayne Blazer, 29, and Troy Brown, 36, both of Hoxie. The home was Blazer's residence.
The Lawrence County Sheriff's Department responded to the call. The Walnut Ridge Fire Department provided mutual aid.
