Lady Bobcats close
season at tourney

The Walnut Ridge Lady Bobcats lost to Riverside 66-49 in the first round of the AA North Regional Basketball Tournament on Thursday at Rector.

Lady Bobcat Lacey Cobble started things rolling for Walnut Ridge, but the Lady Rebels grabbed a 24-15 first-quarter lead. As the second quarter got underway, Walnut Ridge did not give up, but trailed 37-27 at halftime.

Back after the break, Walnut Ridge cut Riverside's lead to seven points early in the third quarter. The Lady Cats' defense peaked, but with Walnut Ridge in foul trouble, Riverside held a lead of 52-37 as the final quarter approached.

With three Lady Cats fouling out, Riverside was able to stay in command for the win.

Vanessa Oliver led the Bobcats with 17 points. Chelsey Linebaugh had 10 points, and Chelsea Treadway recorded nine. Jordan Rorex, Lacey Cobble, Carrie Massey, Rachel Looney and Sarah Emison all had two points each.
